2009-06. Joint Exhibit. Water, Rivers and Peoples. Malaga.
June 11th, 2009
June 12th to July 4th, 2009.
The Foundation for the New Culture of Water has organized a sizable photo exhibit named Agua, Ríos y Pueblos (Water, Rivers and Peoples) that, according to its website, “offers a human profile of the conflicts and struggles for water. Through the photographs and testimonies, the people affected cease to be a statistic and directly communicate their anguish, reasons and hopes.”
The project documents dozens of individual cases involving the following genres: Great dam projects and forced displacement; Human rights, violence and water; Catastrophes; Ecosystem degradation and hunger; Privatization and the human right to potable water; Victories and solutions.
MiMundo.org contributes to the human rights, violence and water section with images from the Chixoy Dam case involving the massacres of Maya Achi communities in Rabinal, Guatemala.
The exhibit was inaugurated in the Plaza de la Constitución, Málaga, on June 2009.
Towards the end of 2009, the exhibit was also shown at the Ainsa Castle in Aragon.
